Privacy policy
What personal information this site and the studio collect, why, who else sees it and the rights you have over it. Written in plain English.
Who I am
This website, charliegstudio.com, is run by Charlie Jemmett, trading as Charlie G Studio, an independent graphic design studio based in County Durham, England. I decide how the personal information collected through this site is used, which makes me the “controller” of it under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
You can contact me about anything on this page at charlesjemmett003@gmail.com.
What I collect and why
| What | Why | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Enquiries through the contact forms: your name, email address, phone number if you give it, and your message | To reply, answer questions and send you a quote | Taking steps at your request before a contract, and my legitimate interest in replying to people who get in touch |
| Emails and messages you send me directly, including by Instagram or LinkedIn | To reply and keep a record of what we agreed | Legitimate interests |
| Client details: contact details, project information, quotes and invoices | To do the work, bill for it and keep proper accounts | Contract, and legal obligation for tax records |
| Website data: IP address, browser and device type, pages visited | To run the site securely and understand, in general terms, how it is used | Legitimate interests; analytics cookies only with your consent where required (see the cookie policy) |
| The Brand Lab: the description you type into the name generator | To generate name ideas for you | Legitimate interests, and your request |
I don’t ask for, and please don’t send, sensitive information such as health details or financial account numbers through the site.
How the contact form works
When you send a form on this site, it is passed through a form service called Web3Forms, which emails it to my inbox. My email is provided by Google (Gmail). Both handle your message only to deliver and store it for me.
The Brand Lab name generator
The Brand Lab keeps your brief and your list of names in your own browser (using “local storage”), so they are still there if you come back. That information stays on your device; I can’t see it. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.
When the AI part of the Brand Lab is switched on, the description you type is sent through a small service run on Cloudflare to Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI model, which suggests names from it. Only the description is sent, not your name or contact details, so please don’t include personal information in it.
Who else sees your information
I never sell your information or use it for anyone else’s marketing. It is shared only with the services that run the studio and this site:
- Squarespace, which hosts this website
- Web3Forms, which delivers contact form messages
- Google, for email (Gmail) and for the fonts on this site (Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when your browser loads them)
- Cloudflare and Anthropic, only for the Brand Lab’s AI naming, as described above
- An accountant or HMRC, where the law or my accounts need it
- Your Digital Team, my marketing partner, only if you ask to work with us both
Information sent outside the UK
Some of these services are based in, or store data in, the United States or elsewhere outside the UK. Where that happens, I rely on the safeguards those providers put in place for transfers from the UK, such as the UK’s approved contract clauses or the UK-US data bridge.
How long I keep it
- Enquiries that don’t turn into work: up to 12 months, then deleted
- Client records, quotes and invoices: as long as UK tax law requires, currently at least six years
- Brand Lab lists: in your browser until you clear them
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information I hold about you
- ask me to correct it, or to delete it
- ask me to limit how I use it, or object to me using it
- ask for it in a format you can take elsewhere
- withdraw consent, where I rely on it
Email me at charlesjemmett003@gmail.com to use any of these. I’ll respond within one month and it is free. If you’re unhappy with how I handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, though I’d appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Keeping it safe
I keep client files and email in accounts protected by strong passwords and two-step sign-in, and only I have access to them.
Changes to this policy
If anything here changes, I’ll update this page and the date at the top.
